RGV’s Vennupotu Song A Superhit Despite TDP Protests

Ram Gopal Verma - Sakshi Post

Vijayawada: Alleging that filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma (RGV) was showcasing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu in bad taste in his upcoming film 'Lakshmi's NTR', the Telugu Desam Party cadres across the State held protests and burnt effigies of the maverick director. Calling for a ban on the movie release, TDP leader Sambasiva Rao burnt photographs of RGV in front of the AP Film Chamber Hall here. The TDP leaders alleged that the film was made in a biased manner, in a way that is disrespectful to former CM N.T. Rama Rao.

Stating that Chandrababu was the rightful political heir of NTR, the TDP leader raised objection to the 'Vennu Potu' song in the film. On the other side, Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy filed a complaint at Kurnool's II Town police station alleging that RGV was trying to bring disrepute to Chandrababu Naidu.

The Vennu Potu song, released minutes before the audio launch of NTR Kathanayakudu, recorded 1.5 million views on YouTube. Responding to the protests, the director said the TDP leaders had indirectly helped increase the views for the song.
