Thala Ajith Mentors MIT Team Daksha In Air Ambulance Drone Technology
Kollywood actor “Thala” Ajith has added another feather to his cap—by mentoring the students of Madras Institute of Technology.
Ajith, who first developed an interest in aero-modeling as a school student volunteered to be a part of MIT’s Team Dhaksha, which participated in the UAV Challenge Medical Express 2018, which was held in Queensland, Australia, this September.
The Team Dhaksha participated in the UAV Challenge and Actor Ajith Kumar was in the role of their ‘Helicopter Test Pilot and UAV System Adviser’. The 47-year-old star is known for participating in Formula One races, not only cars, he is also a bike racer. Ajith holds a valid pilot license and he is trained in flying a fighter jet.
Team Dhaksha has now come second in the competition. Ajith’s expertise has helped them in building the drone, it is a challenging endeavor the team has successfully accomplished. They have created an unmanned vehicle that puts to use a robotic aircraft for medical samples to be ferried to the lab and medicine delivery, to the patients. Teams from all over the globe participated in the event.
Ajith was appointed to mentor the team in the month of May this year. Rs,1000 which was paid as a honorarium was also donated by the star for the sake of students from economically poor background sections.
The specialty of the drone is that it is completely run by a software, helping it to navigate better to the destination. Generally drones are operated by hand held remotes. Another interesting fact is that this drone uses petrol as a energy source, making it fly beyond six hours at a stretch.
The news of Ajith's rare accomplishment was shared by film critic Ramesh Bala on Twitter. Have a look at the tweet...
