No More Item Numbers in Telugu Films?

In films featuring A-listers, an Item song or a special number is a must to entertain the mass audiences. Latest we hear is that the filmmakers in Tollywood are planning to stop the culture of incorporating peppy numbers in Telugu films.

The practice of adding a special number to up the oomph quotient of the movie has been a part of every film industry since ages. And more often than not these item numbers or special numbers become the highlight of a film and also top the music charts because of their catchy tunes. Also, these numbers give an opportunity to feature a big actresses willing to make just a cameo due to their busy schedules. Besides, these foot tapping numbers are often played in every party and function to liven up the atmosphere.

Gone are the days when filmmakers would hire cabaret dancers to dance to the numbers. However, in the recent days, the trend seems have undergone a seachange. Established actresses like Kajal Aggarwal, Pooja Hedge, and Tamannah too are more than willing to shake a leg and wow the audiences in their mass avatar. A few actress even accept item songs due to lack of film offers.

Earlier, it was easy to guess the names of item girls. Silk Smitha, Jyothi Lakshmi, Mumaith Khan, Malaika Arora etc. But now with every A-list actress willing to do an item number, it's hard to come up with names or take a guess as to who would be grooving to the dance number.

Also, one must not forget that the audience looks forward to such numbers as a break from the serious scenes in the movie. Now, if the makers indeed do away with these songs then there would be nothing to look forward to. Let's see what happens.
