Swapna undergoing treatment at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital

Hyderabad: An engineering student suffered serious injury resulting in loss of eye sight due to bursting of firecrackers during the Diwali celebrations here on Thursday.

A rocket hit Swapna's eye when students were bursting crackers in the hostel at Guru Nanak Engineering College at Ibrahimpatnam near city. The mishap took place when the boys in their hostel were bursting crackers and a rocket accidentally ran towards girls' hostel and hit Swapna. The hostel warden rushed the girl to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

The doctors at SD eye hospital said Swapna’s right eye suffered serious damaged and her eye sight may not be restored. “We are trying to restore her eye sight at least to some extent,” doctors said.

Swapna’s parents demanded action against the college management for the mishap. “The college management was responsible for the damage of our daughter’s eyes,” they said.

Around 30 people including five children were injured in separate incidents across the city on due to bursting of crackers on Diwali on Thursday night.
