EFLU students approach National Commission for Scheduled Castes
The students of EFLU have approached the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Saturday after the alleged eviction of a PhD scholar Koonal Duggal from the English and Foreign Languages University.
The students have demanded the immediate arrest of proctor Prakash Kona based on a case filed against him under the SCST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
“A person facing police enquiry into serious charges of caste violence is in no manner eligible to hold the post of proctor until he is cleared of all charges, “the Eflu students said.
The student’s release stated, : “Koonal, along with other students, presented the case in front of PM Kamalamma, member of NCSC and demanded an immediate enquiry in the April 14 incident where Duggal was allegedly dragged out of the university by the security officials.“
It may be recalled that Koonal Doogal, a PhD scholar was evicted from the campus premises of English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) in Hyderabad on Thursday after he delivered a speech against atrocities on Dalit students. The incident took place amidst nationwide celebrations of the Dalit icon Dr. BR Ambedkar's 125 anniversary.
He claimed, “I was dragged out of the campus by a team of security guards after delivering my speech against the atrocities on Dalits. When I asked them why I was being taken away, they informed me that they received orders from the chief security officer to send me away.”
However, the proctor Prakash Kona has a different version on the incident. Prakash accused Koonal of trespassing and indulging in anti-university activities. He added that his entry into the campus including the hostels is strictly prohibited without proctor's permission.
