Hyderabad: A caution deposit fee for mess membership of PG students has been paid by two professors of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU).

The professors paid Rs 5,200 each for the five students, similarly one of the professors also readily offered help to pay fee for 12 other students. However owing to their financial condition that they won’t be in position to pay him they refused help.

One of the professors said that the new norm has been implemented as some students eat in the mess and do not pay the bill

The university has implemented the new norm of payment of caution deposit fee and mess bill on monthly basis from this academic year. However, the new norm proves tougher for students coming from lower strata of society.

One of the professors said that the new norm has been implemented as some students eat in the mess and do not pay the bill.

The mess bill usually comes around Rs 2,500 but the social welfare scholarship offered by the state government is Rs 750 for SC, ST students and Rs 650 for OBC students. Incidentally, this amount is released as arrears once in a few months.

Meanwhile, EFLU provides Rs 1,000 per month to students whose parents annual income is less than Rs 1.5 lakh.
