So how does one perform the Varalakshmi Vratham? Here's the procedure...
Varalakshmi Vratham/Pooja Vidhanam
According to mythology, It all started when Parvati asked Shiva to suggest a pooja that could enchance the status of a person in terms of health and wealth. It is then that Shiva suggested Varalakshmi vratam. Varalakshmi is one who gives you boons and fulfills your wishes. The vratham needs no preparation as such except the usual decking up of the pooja room with mago leaves, cleaning up the place of worship, a few flowers and food offering. It is often said that Goddess Lakshmi loves anything made from rice.
It could be Paramannam, Pulihora or kheer made from rice. Light up the diyas as you would, deck up the idol or picture of Goddess lakshmi with flowers and offer prasad and you are done. A few people who do vratham with the help of a priest also tie an yellow thread with 9 knots to their hands after the varalakshmi pooja.
