EC Prohibits Use of Public Property, Money for Party Activities

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday issued new guidelines to political parties in the country that prohibit the use of public areas and public money for the use of party activities.

In response to a clarification sought by the Delhi High Court, the ECI sought the views of all political parties on the use of party symbols at public places. After receiving a response from various political parties, the ECI issued the said directives. It also stated that disregard of the guidelines amounts to violation of the election code of conduct.
