Earthquake in Italy, 63 Dead, Toll Set to Rise
Italy: As many as 63 persons died and scores of people have gone missing in an earthquake measuring 6.2 on Richter Scale that shook several towns of Central Italy. In Amatrice town alone, as many as 35 were killed.Rescue teams are using bulldozers and their bare hands to clear the pile of rubble and fears are being expressed that the toll could be higher.
“A Half of the town doesn’t exist anymore. The people are stuck underneath the rubble,”said Matrice Mayor Sergio Pirozzi
Several buildings have collapsed and many cities have no electricity. Even the local hospital in Amatrice was also badly damaged.The first earthquake was reported around 3:30 a.m. local time near Norcia, 105 miles from Rome. Later, there were several after-shocks
