Drastic hike in compensation for police martyrs
The Telangana government has approved a hike in compensation for families of police personnel, martyred in operations against Maoists. Orders were issued to this effect by the state government on Saturday. The compensation will be effective from June 2, 2014, the day the Telangana state came into being.
Currently, the compensation for an IPS or SP rank officer killed in the line of duty is Rs 30 lakhs, this has been hiked to Rs 1 crore. Similarly, in case of permanent disability Rs 50 lakhs and serious injuries Rs 6 lakhs will be the new compensation packages.
In the case of CIs, DSPs and additional SPs, the new packages are Rs 50 lakhs for those killed in operation, Rs 30 lakhs for permanent disability and Rs 5 lakhs for serious injuries.
The ex-gratia for SIs and head constable rank personnel is Rs 45 lakhs in the event of death, Rs 25 lakhs for permanent disability and Rs 5 lakhs for serious injuries.
