Doctor booked on charge of raping Dalit woman
Rampur (UP): A doctor has been booked for allegedly raping a Dalit woman when she had gone to his clinic here, police said today, as medical fraternity alleged he was falsely implicated in the case at the behest of a senior UP minister.
The incident took place on Tuesday when the woman, a Samajwadi Party activist, had gone to the clinic of heart specialist Dr Taj Mohammad.
A complaint under IPC sections 376 (punishment for rape), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against the doctor yesterday, a police officer said.
The incident took a political turn with the medical fraternity alleging that Mohammad was implicated in the false case at the behest of senior Uttar Pradesh minister and Rampur MLA Azam Khan.
They demanded that the case be handed over to the CB-CID. Opposition BSP and RLD demanded an impartial investigation in the case. The Indian Medical Association appealed to the Superintendent of Police to probe the matter impartially.
