Deserted By Husband, Woman Seeks Sushma’s Help

Chand Deep Kaur - Sakshi Post

Chandigarh: A 29-year-old woman, who was deserted by her NRI husband, has sought the help of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. She asked the minister on Monday to deport him from New Zealand and also wanted the cancellation of his passport.

"I want to set an example so that no other NRI husband can ever dare to cheat a woman. I also want stringent laws in place to check such men," she said. She got a call from the ministry to send relevant documents in connection with the case.

Chand Deep Kaur was married to Ramandeep singh in July 2015. Singh works as an accountant in Auckland. After the wedding, he left to Auckland leaving Kaur with his parents. He again returned to India in December 2015 and went back in January. He hadn't returned ever since. Her in-laws told her to go to her maternal home as his son will not be coming to India again. She had to go to her maternal home and now none of her in-laws are in contact with her. Nobody had responded to her calls.

"I tried calling my husband repeatedly, but he did not respond. I even tried to contact members of my in-laws' family, but they also refused to respond and blocked my number instead," she said. Kaur alleged that she has just spent 40 days with her husband

She then lodged a complaint against her husband in August 2016. Police sent a notice to Ramandeep to attend the court proceedings. After sending the notice multiple times, police declared him as a proclaimed offender.
