Delhi court issues non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya
New Delhi: Brewing more trouble to liquor baron Vijay Mallya, Delhi’s Patiala House Courts on Saturday issued a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya in a 2012 bounced cheque case by a Delhi court which said that coercive steps were required to ensure his appearance. GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd has filed the cheque bouncing case against Mallya.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sumeet Anand on Saturday has the order for producing Mallya in court on November 4, 2016, with the direction that the non-bailable warrant be sent to him by Ministry of External Affairs as he is reportedly in London.
So far several non-bailable warrants issued by different courts against Mallya. Supreme Court has also issued notices for producing Mallya, but he didn’t attend any court. In the auction called for the second time, there were no takers for Mallya’s Kingfisher House and other assets valuing Rs135 crore.
The court noted that despite repeated orders, Mallya did not appear in the court and has directed Union External Affairs Ministry to produce Mallya in the court. The trial court had summoned Mallya as accused following a complaint by DIAL, which operates the capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, claiming that a cheque for Rs. 1 crore issued by Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) on February 22, 2012 was returned to them a month later containing remarks fund insufficient.
