Death Sentence Awarded For Raping Telangana Trainee Policewoman
Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, one person was awarded a life imprisonment and the other a 20-year imprisonment by the SC/ST Special Court on Friday in connection with gang rape of a 23-year-old Dalit woman in February last year. The third accused being a minor is being tried at a juvenile court.
Magistrate M. Nagaraju sentenced Gotte Srinivas to 20 years imprisonment and the other -Muddam Anjaiah has been awarded life imprisonment. The duo have been imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 each.
The victim's family welcomed the judgment which came 15 months after the crime was committed. Meanwhile, the families of the accused said that they would approach High Court to reduce the sentence.
The Case (Veenavanka gangrape)
The gangrape of Dalit woman took place in Karimnagar district. The woman was undergoing training for a police constable training session and was the batchmate of the accused. On the day of the incident, she along with her friend and the accused was returning home. The accused took both the women to a hillock but sensing danger, the other woman escaped, while the victim couldn’t run away. The accused then raped her while another accused recorded the incident.
The matter came to light after the victim informed her parents 13 days after the incident. The parents then beat up the accused on February 24 and reported the matter to police.
