Dead woman's kin halt funeral for 5 days demanding justice - Sakshi Post

Thotapalliguduru (Nellore): The funeral of Mounika, who was allegedly killed by her in-laws on 14th of this month in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, were halted on Saturday too. The woman's dead body was kept at her in-laws house for fifth day as her kin demanded justice for her children.

Daddholu Mounika (23) died on Monday midnight on 14th of this month at her in-laws' place at Paipreddypalem village in Thotapalliguduru mandal of Nellore district. As her husband Ashok and mother-in-law Subhashini went absconding right after the incident, parents of the deceased staged a protest at their house alleging that Mounika's in-laws had killed her daughter by immolating her. As her in-laws did not come back to perform the last rites of Mounika even after three days of the death, the irate kin of the deceased attacked the houses of Mounika's in-laws and their relatives.

Halting the funerals for five days, parents and kin of Mounika budged on their decision saying that the dead body would not be taken out for last rites until the alleged killers who were absconding come back. They staged a protest in front of the woman's in-law's house with the remains of Mounika on fourth day too.

Finally, the police have taken Mounika's husband and her mother-in-law into their custody on Friday evening. But the cremation had not done on Saturday because the kin were busy with the registrations of properties on her kids' names in order to do justice. It is expected that the funerals will be performed on Sunday.
