Crimes against women see 30 pc jump in Cyberabad - Sakshi Post


The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate here has witnessed around 30 per cent jump in cases of crimes against women this year including 110 cases, which were registered under Criminal Law (Amendment) Act-2013. However, downplaying the increase in number of cases, Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said, There is nothing alarming (in the rise in cases)... It only indicates that more and more women are coming forward and complaining on crime against them.

The Cyberabad Police chief was interacting with reporters at the Annual Press conference today. Crimes against women rose to 2,391 cases this year from 1,914 registered in 2012 and out of which 110 are Nirbhaya Act cases. A five-pronged strategy for revamping security in Cyberabad with focus on safety of women employees has been initiated by efforts from police and other departments, he said.

The measures include increasing the number of public transport buses, regulating private transport, enhancing security with increased patrolling, installation of more number of CCTV cameras and creating awareness on security of women. Tennis player Sania Mirza has acted in one of the six short films as part of awareness campaign on women security which will be shortly played in cinema halls, Anand said. Replying to a query, he said that as per the Nirbhaya Act, cases have to be taken up in fast track courts for trial on a fast track basis and pointed out though they had filed chargesheets in 64 cases the trial was yet to commence in any of the cases.
" We will soon have fast track courts and a chargesheet will also be filed in the sensational case of abduction and gangrape of a software employee by two cab drivers in October," Anand added. As many as 103 cyber crime cases were reported in 2013 as against 62 in 2012 and out of this 32 cases have been detected, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner Anand said. Total number of property cases in Cyberabad rose to 6136 when compared to 5630 in last year. Robbery cases also went up to 86 in 2013 from 83 in 2012, house break (By Day) was 322 when compared to 293, while house break (By Night) increased to 976 from 798, while snatching incidents rose to 1,107 from 843 and theft cases increased to 1,935 from 1,808. According to the Cyberabad Police chief, the number of accident reported till December 26 this year was 3,751 up from 3,630 in 2012 though the number of deaths was recorded at 1,091 when compared to 1,117.
He further said to deal with land disputes, 'Standard Operating Procedures' prepared and implemented and 'Land Grabber sheets' were opened against habitual land grabbers. Replying to query, Anand said, for the first time traffic enforcement (police patrolling) on Outer Ring Road will be introduced very soon.
Parts of Hyderabad city including the IT hub is known as Cyberabad. Also some parts of neighbouring Ranga Reddy district fall under the Cyberabad police jurisdiction.
