Thane Man Arrested For Refusing To Accept From Other Faith Delivery Agent

THANE: A 51-year-old man from Kashimira locality in Maharashtra's Thane district has been arrested for allegedly refusing to take delivery from a Muslim person.
Gajanan Chaturvedi was booked under IPC section 295(A) (malicious act outraging religious feelings) on Tuesday night, Sanjay Hazare, senior police inspector of Kashimira police station, told a news agency.
Chaturvedi was produced before the Thane sessions court on Wednesday and released on bail of Rs 15,000 personal surety, the inspector said.
The delivery man had filed a complaint where he stated that he had visited Chaturvedi's house in Mira Road on Tuesday morning to deliver certain goods, the officer said. Chaturvedi had asked his name, and when the delivery man told his name, the accused said that he would not accept anything from Muslims.

“The delivery man was shocked about Chaturvedi’s behaviour and recorded the entire conversation on his cellphone,” Hazare was quoted saying by a leading daily.
“I risked my life to deliver all the essential items. But the man’s (Chaturvedi) behaviour was shocking and tragic, as he was focusing on my religion amid these hard times,” the delivery person told Kashimira Police authorities, as quoted by the daily.
The country is under a 21-day lockdown since March 25 due to the coronavirus outbreak and was later extended till May 3 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Maharashtra has recorded over 1,700 cases in last 3 days. The state recorded 778 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day with 522 new cases were in Mumbai. The total count of confirmed coronavirus cases now stand at 6,430 and death toll at 283, according the Union Health Ministry on Friday.
On Friday morning, the number of coronavirus cases in India jumped to 23,077, but the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said at least 23,502 people have tested positive so far. The toll rose to 718, while the number of patients who have recovered stood at 4,748.
