Dead Body of Newborn Found In Drain In Thane

Thane: The corpse of a new born baby child was found was found in a nullah here in Maharashtra on Sunday.

According to police at Vartak Nagar police station, when a man went to throw garbage in the drain, he noticed a 'doll-like' thing there. On closer look, he found that it was the dead body of a male child.

The man rushed to the police station and informed police who rushed to the spot.

A police official was quoted saying by a news agency that the child could have been stillborn or perhaps dead after birth. The accused is suspected to have dumped the body in the drain to conceal the birth, police said.

Police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of body).

Police said search is on for the unidentified accused.
