8 Arrested For Drinking Liquor During Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations In Surat 

Surat (Gujarat): In dry state Gujarat, Surat police arrested eight people who were drunk during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at Mahidharpura. A case has been registered against them under the Gujarat Prohibition Act and other relevant sections.

Surat police officer Choudhary speaking to a news agency said that they acted after a video went viral where the drunken men were seeing dancing with beer bottles in their hand in front of Lord Ganesha idols. Local media too telecasted the visuals, following which police sprung into action.

Choudhary added the eight people were part of Shiva Ganesh Youth Association of Surat.

Meanwhile, ACP JK Pandya said that the eight people were arrested as there was evidence against their action. He warned people against drinking alcohol in the state as it will call for strict action against the defaulters.
