Death Sentence For Primary Accused Of Kolliyoor Murder
Thiruvananthapuram: The second additional sessions court, has awarded death sentence for the primary accused, and life imprisonment for the second accused in the Kolliyoor murder case. The Verdict was passed on Thursday, by Judge Mini S Das, and he termed the case as rarest of the rare.
The primary accused, who was given a death sentence, is Kolus bInu alias Anilkumar. He is the son of Susheelan of Vatta-ppara. The second accused who was given a life imprisonment is the son of Subramanyal of Oduk-kathur in Tamil Nadu.
The crime had taken place in the wee hours on June 7, 2016. A couple was asleep in their house when the two had attacked them and killed the Husband with a sledge hammer. The wife was then injured and raped. The husband (45) was a mason while his wife was 42-years old. Their daughter aged 16 and son aged 14 were in the other room when the incident took place. The two had fled the area after robbing the house of all the money and ornaments they could find.
It was learned that Anilkumar was once the victim's neighbour and was physically attracted to his wife. The police had recovered the ornaments that Anilkumar and his mother-in-law Ammakutty had sold to a jewellery store at Tirunelveli. The police had produced CCTV footage of the two selling the ornaments.
The woman, who underwent treatment, has lost her memory and has not regained it since the incident. As many as 76 witnesses were examined for the case.
