Man For Virginity, Pregnancy Tests After Bride Throws Up
Bengaluru: An unwell bride who threw up minutes after tying the knot was subjected to a virginity test and a test for pregnancy by her spouse without her knowledge. The husband is being taken to court for suspecting her fidelity and harassing her.
Sharat (29) and Raksha (26) (names changed) from North Karnataka were MBA graduates and were working for reputed firms. Raksha had lost her mother to cancer 15 days before the wedding.
Raksha slipped into depression which Sharath thought was because she was unhappy over the marriage. Raksha confided in her friends from her hometown, which Sharath misconstrued, as well. On the day of the wedding, Raksha had vomited due to gastritis. She was rushed to the hospital. While at the hospital Raksha found out that she was being tested for pregnancy and she was getting a virginity test done. In the beginning Sharath denied being instrumental in this. Soon after the test Raksha confronted Sharath and went to her sister’s house where she had been staying.
Three months later, Sharath came to the Parihar family counseling centre and filed a complaint against his wife. To defuse the marital dispute, the centre summoned Raksha. But counselors were shocked to learn of the ordeals Raksha went through.
The HR professional did not admit to his mistake during counseling sessions conducted by Aparna Purnesh, a counselor at Parihar family counseling centre (Vanitha Sahayavani) attached to Bengaluru city police.
Rani Shetty, the coordinator of the counseling centre, said, “Raksha’s father passed away long ago and she lost her mother a few days before marriage. Instead of consoling her, Sharath misunderstood her and subjected her to tests without consent, which is illegal. We are providing her necessary assistance from the centre.”
