Young Woman Found Dead In Suspicious Circumstances At Srikakulam

A young woman was murdered in Sompeta Mandal, Ramachandrapuram - Sakshi Post

Sompeta: A young woman was murdered in Sompeta Mandal, Ramachandrapuram of Srikakulam district on Saturday.

According to the details given by the police, the deceased, Kanaka Latha Mahanti alias Lily (22) was the daughter of Kura Mahanti and Radhamani Mahanti. Kura Mahanti worked as a cook in Tanuku. Kanaka Latha, worked as an academic volunteer at the local Odiya medium school.

While Kanaka Latha along with her mother walk everyday to a well outside of the village for a bath, on Saturday, she preferred to go alone. Noticing her clothes lying on the road, the locals nearby went to investigate and found Kanaka Latha lying dead on the ground. They immediately informed her parents. While the villagers and her parents made several attempts to revive her, however, Kanaka Latha was dead. As the police was informed, officials reached the spot and investigated the crime scene.

The body was sent to Sompeta Government hospital for post-mortem.

A case of murder was registered by the police. Noticing the marks on her face, the locals suspected that the victim was sexually assaulted and then murdered. However, the police asserted that the details will be known in the post-mortem report.

Three years back, an engineering student from Odisha was killed and the body was disposed off near the National Highway in the limits of Ramachandrapuram Panchayat. At that time, the murder had created a lot of tense situation in the region and now, the villagers are worried over another girl being killed in the same area.
