Three Killed, 15 Injured After Truck Crashes Into Van Carrying 40 Passengers
Hyderabad: Three people were killed and 15 others injured in an accident that took place at Thurkapally in Shamirpet on Friday.
The mishap occurred when a truck crashed into a DCM van carrying 40 passengers, who were returning from a wedding reception at Gajwel in Siddipet district.
The police identified the deceased as Erra Srinivas (38), H Baswaraju (32) and A Paul(24), all residents of Suraram colony, Jeedimetla. While the wedding took place at Suraram three days ago, the reception was scheduled on Thursday night at the groom's residence at Angadi Kistapur village in Gajwel of Siddipet district.
Post the reception, the newlyweds left to Suraram in a car, while the relatives took off in the DCM van.
According to the police, the DCM driver slowed down the vehicle to stop on the roadside near Turkapally village under the Shamirpet police limits of Cyberabad commissionerate but a lorry traveling in the same direction rammed the van from behind. It is learned that the driver could not control the vehicle owing to its speed and ended up hitting the van from behind.
The Shamirpet police informed that E Srinivas and Baswaraju died on the spot due to head injuries and Paul succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
15 passengers traveling in the van also sustained injuries and have been admitted to different hospitals located near Shamirpet. The police are yet to arrest the driver, who absconded the scene leaving his vehicle behind after the accident.
