God-man Attempts To Sexually Assault Woman In The Pretext Of Ritual; Held
A self-proclaimed god-man was arrested on Tuesday in Jaggayyapeta town in Krishna district on charges of rape attempt.
The accused, identified as Bilal was approached by a woman for help as her husband was unwell. In the pretext of holding a 'special prayer' at his 'treatment centre' in the town, he attempted to sexually assault the woman.
As per the details, Bilal claimed that a 'talisman' and a special prayer would solve the health issues of her husband. He asked the woman to return after a few days.
When she returned with her husband, the god-man locked her inside a room as he claimed to perform a ritual and made an attempt to sexually assault her.
As the woman resisted, the accused backed off and asked her to call her husband into the room. As she immediately informed her family members regarding the incident, a complaint was filed and the accused was arrested.
An attempt to rape case was registered by the Jaggayyapeta police under Section 376 read with 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
After being presented in a local court, he was sent to judicial remand. The police suspect that there might have been more victims, whom the accused may have lured in the pretext of rituals.
Assuring that strict action would be taken against the accused, the police stated that they would initiate restrictions on such god-men who were offering 'help' to the public.
