Pregnant Woman Ends Life Over Lost Sarpanch Opportunity

Aswaraopet: A pregnant woman on Monday committed suicide by hanging herself at Uttapally in Aswaraopet mandal of Bhadradri district. The Uttapally Panchayat seat has been reserved for a SC woman.

As per the details, local leaders chose to nominate Rebekah Rani(26) as the TRS candidate. However, with Rebekah Rani being seven-months pregnant, her sister-in-law Sadhu Jyotsnabai was chosen. Jyotsnabai won as the Sarpanch in the recently held first phase elections on January 25.

However, Rebekah Rani had a fall out with her family members over Jyotsnabai's nomination as she missed out on the opportunity for contesting in the elections. Even on Monday, she had a heated argument with her brother and father.

Upset over this, she went to her house and committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. Her husband, Narendra who later returned home found the door locked. With the help of his in-laws, he broke open the door to find his wife dead. A case has been registered in this regard in the nearby police station.
