Teacher Held Over Charges Of Betting
Prakasam: A man was arrested in Prakasam district on Monday after he cheated an engineering student for Rs 30 lakh over betting.
The accused, Yemireddy Narendra Reddy, a PET teacher from Gullapalli in Maddipadu mandal convinced Chaluvadi Pavan Kumar of Ongole to invest money in betting of cricket, pro kabaddi, and badminton matches making him believe it would yield huge returns.
Pavan Kumar handed over the insurance money of Rs 20 lakh, he received after the demise of his father along with 300 grams of gold biscuits and a chain to the accused, who demanded more money claiming he had lost all the money. Unable to deal with the pressure, Pavan Kumar along with his family members lodged a complaint with the police against Narendra Reddy.
The police recovered Rs 12.70 lakh in cash and 3 gold biscuits, a total worth of Rs 23.70 lakh from the accused who confessed to giving the remaining money to a friend, Mahesh for betting but was instead cheated.
A case has been registered against Narendra Reddy and his friend under Sections of 420, 406 and 506 of IPC on charges of betting and cheating.
