Fire At Vizag Steel Plant Again, No Casualties
Viskahapatnam: A major fire broke out at the Steel Melt Shop-2 at the Visakhapatnam Steel plant, which is the second one in a span of three days. It happened at the Filter House Building in the early hours of Monday and since no body was there at that time it did not cause any casualties.
The CISF fire brigade rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire within a span of two hours and there was no damage to the equipment either.
On Friday a blast occurred in the Blast Furnace-3 on due to a leakage but the supervising authorities managed to restore the hot metal production after repairs within wee completed in a day and half.
The union president J. Ayodhyaram urged the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam management to improve safety measures at the steel plant as many of the employers were expressing their fears about working in such dangerous conditions. It may also be recalled that a major fire accident occurred in 2012 during which sixteen people were burnt alive in the steel melt shot at the plant.
