Tirupati: Red Sandalwood Smuggled In Wedding Car

Tirupati: Task force police have acted with prudence and caught Red Sandalwood smugglers. They got hold of Red Sandal which was being ferried in a car. Task force RSI Vasu said” a car, which was specially decorated for a wedding was spotted by the police, who were combing near Tirumala Nagar of Renigunta.

As this was not the marriage season police grew suspicious, and meticulously searched the vehicle. In the garb of wedding car, they have decorated the car and were smuggling Red Sandalwood. Police said, they have seized the pieces of wood and four people have been arrested. Doravelu from Nindra Mandal, Dilip Kumar, Teja from Mangalam. Mastan from Chillakur Mandal, Nellore has been arrested.

Smuggling Red Sandalwood without proper purchase papers is an offense. Many cases of smuggling are reported every now and then, like this. The wood is highly prized for its fragrance and is also an endangered tree.
