Minor Girls Attempt Suicide In School Over Public Humiliation
Chennai: Five minor girls attempted to commit suicide here on Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, the victims were students of Class VII at a government school in Arasampattu, Villupuram district. A boy who belonged to the same class is believed to have written a love note on the black board along with their names in the classroom. The other students bullied them over the incident, it is learned.
After being subject to public embrassment, the girls who felt humiliated, consumed poison in the premises of the school itself. The school teachers learned of the matter and shifted them to Kallakurchi hospital along with the locals. Because of the timely effort by the medical staff, they survived. The police was informed and they have started the investigation.
Recently, in a similar incident, A Nepali native who was pursuing engineering at Ibrahimpatnam was arrested for sexually harassing and exploiting his female classmate.
The victim is a third year engineering student at Gurunanak engineering college. She lives in a hostel near her college. One year ago, she met her classmate Arif Ansari who later became friends, said the police.
He would continuously trouble her and seek physical relationship with her. She lodged a complaint with the police who arrested the accused and a case under the SC & ST Atrocities Act under IPC section 376 was filed against him.
