Cat Meat Suppliers Arrested
Hyderabad: Local residents here caught four people who were trapping cats illegally. They informed Chilakalguda police who took them into custody. Animal activists suspect that cat meat is illegally being supplied in the city.
One well-known animal activist is reported to have received a call on Saturday around 11 pm that four people were allegedly catching cats in Chilakalguda. He was told that they caught a cat and were searching for more in the area."
He told the media, "This is not the first time that cats are being illegally carried out. Two months ago also we rescued five cats. The people who caught the cats will come in the early morning or late in the night where they can trap them easily. They use a stick and wire to catch the cats and I suspect they are supplying cat meat to some of the restaurants in the city of Hyderabad," he said.
"According the order dated by August 6, 2014, (FSSAI) Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, slaughtering any other animal comes under illegal except the species belonging to bovines, caprines, bovines, suillines, poultry and fish," he added.
K Kishore Kumar, Chikkadpally SI said "After getting the information, we rushed to the spot and rescued the cats. We also filed a case against the accused."
