Man Stages Kidnap Drama To Escape Chasing Creditors
Bengaluru: A man was arrested for plotting a kidnap drama to escape from his lenders. The accused, Prathap, an owner of a photo studio who was caught by South Division police. Prathap called South Division DCP K Annamalai through police helpline asking him to rescue him from the kidnappers.
Prathap who lived in Bommanahali had borrowed nearly Rs 40 lakhs from his friends and when they demanded to return the money, he plotted a kidnap drama to escape from them. On November 11, he called the police helpline saying he was kidnapped by some unknown people at Kothanur Dinne and they are about to reach Kengeri. The police immediately formed a special team and went to Kengeri. He again called police and informed them saying that he was moving to Mysuru. When the police reached Mysuru, he again called and said he has being moved to Madikeri who later switched off the mobile, the police said.
The next day, Prathap called DCP Annamalai and complained that the police team failed to rescue him. He then requested officer's help where the DCP instructed the police team to take the case seriously.
On November 13 around 9:30 pm, Prathap called police helpline and said that the kidnappers had left him on NICE road. The police went to him and brought him to the police station. When he pretended to be tired, the police let him go home. On November 14, Prathap came to the police station and confessed saying he had staged the kidnap drama to escape from the moneylenders.
Later, the police filed a case under IPC section 182 (False information with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person). They produced him before the court and sent to judicial custody.
