Chennai: The video of an Aghora (a Sadhu who practises dark rituals) in Tamil Nadu, sitting on his mother's dead body and performing last rites, has gone viral. The incident which took place in Ariyamangalam near Tiruverumbur in Tiruchi district sent shock waves through the state.

Manikantan, the son of Mary of Ariyamangalam, was performing her last rites. As it turns out, Manikantan had undergone training in tantrik rituals in Varanasi and was conducting regular puja services.

Manikantan returned to perform his mother's final rituals as per the practices he learnt. As a part of that, he sat on on his mother's dead body. Later, his mother was buried by him and his fellow-aghora companions who came from Varanasi. The incident became a talking point here in view of the dark rituals involved.
