A newly married woman committed suicide on Saturday at Batikinapalli in Jagityala district.

Pegadapalli: A newly married woman committed suicide on Saturday at Batikinapalli in Jagityala district. According to the police SI Ravi, Niroja (20) daughter of Mallareddy and Gangavva married Surender Reddy son of Srinivas Reddy and Lakshmi on June 7th, 2018. Surender Reddy took a dowry of one lakh rupees in cash, three tholas of gold and 32,000 sq ft as dowry.

Soon after her marriage, her in-law's started demanding more dowry. Unable to bear the harassment, a depressed Niroja committed self-immolation in Surender Reddy's house. The family members rushed her to the hospital but she succumbed while undergoing treatment in the hospital. The parents of Niroja filed a complaint against Surender Reddy, Lakshmi, Srinivas Reddy and Narender Reddy. "The whole family killed Niroja and they are trying to portray it as a suicide", complained her parents to the police.

"Based on the post-mortem report, we can conclude whether it is a murder or suicide," SI Ravi said.
