Hyderabad Infant Sold For Rs.50,000: Four Held
Hyderabad: Two women were among four people arrested by the Pujagutta police for selling an infant girl for Rs. 50,000 after striking a deal with the parents of the month-old baby. The girl's parents, Bhajan and Sujatha of Hayathnagar in the city, wanted to give away their third girl child. They approached Balaji, one of the arrested persons, stating that they wanted to give the child without taking any money in return. Balaji, along with his sister-in-law Lakshmi, sold the infant to Bharath Kumar and Lakshmi of Borabanda and employees of a fertility centre. The Borabanda couple were striking a deal with another customer for Rs. 70,000 when, as it turned out, a street vendor overheard them. Though the couple tried to lure him with some money, he reportedly brought them to the Punjagutta police station.
A case under Section 81 of Juvenile Justice Act was registered. It is learnt that Bharath, Lakshmi of Borabanda and Balaji, Lakshmi of Hayathnagar were taken into custody.
