CPI(M) welcomes Modi's surprise Pak visit
Kolkata: CPI(M) on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise visit to Lahore and called for consistent and regular dialogue with Pakistan for lasting peace between the two neighbours.
"We want consistent, regular dialogues and more people-to- people contact essential for lasting peaceful legacy. Negates hate-mongers and terrorists," CPI(M) Politburo member Md Salim said in a tweet.
"As a Leftist, I welcome any step towards peace and cooperation with Pakistan. We should move beyond photo-ops and personal bonhomie," he added.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the CPI-M leader said he hoped that the Indian Prime Minister would tell the nation as to what transpired during his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart. In a major surprise, Modi flew into Lahore this afternoon, his first touchdown in Pakistan, to meet his Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The announcement came from Modi himself in a tweet as he prepared to wind up his brief visit to Afghanistan on Friday.
