CPI opposes power plants in Rajahmundry

Andhra Pradesh CPI State Secretary Dr K Narayana on Saturday visited the sites of upcoming coal-based power plants of KPR Industries in the East Godavari district, and said his party was opposed to the plants.

Narayana, accompanied by the district CPI leaders, visited Dottamuru village in Rangampet mandal and Balavram village in Bikkovalu mandal.
CPI activists removed the survey stones at the sites.  Narayana said, We are urging the management to follow the norms of AP Pollution Control Board. We will extend support to the people, who are agitating against the harmful industries.
Meanwhile, police said that some of the agitators set fire to generators at the plant sites and assaulted a woman.
Stones were thrown during a public hearing conducted by the District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad and the district Pollution Control Board officials. The Collector postponed the hearing.
