GHMC Counting to Begin at 3pm, Results Only After 5pm
Hyderabad: The wait for the candidates and their parties and Hyderabadis as well is going to be longer for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election results to come out;
the original schedule of counting of votes has been changed due to the re-poll to be held for Purana Pool Division on Friday. The re-poll was ordered by the Election Commission after complaints were filed by Congress stating that MIM resorted to rigging in several polling stations in Purana Pool Division.
The re-poll will be held from 7am to 5pm in all polling stations. The counting of all the 149 Divisions for which polling was held on February 2 will begin at 3pm. It won't take much time to finish counting and tabulation of results. However, as the re-poll will continue till 5pm, results will be announced only after 5pm. The counting of Purana Pool Division will be taken up in the last and by late evening entire counting process will be completed, GHMC Commissioner and Election Returning Officer B. Janardhan Reddy told the media on Thursday.
The entire process of counting will be video recorded and except for the candidates and authorized agents, no one will be allowed within and around the counting centers, he said and appealed people, leaders and political parties not to gather and create any noise around the centers. Section 144 would be imposed at the counting centers. The electronic voting machines will be sealed and kept in storage until the term of elections is over, he said.
