Cops Arrest Kondandaram, Foil Amarula Sphoorti Yatra In Janagam
Telangana Joint Action Committee chairperson Prof. Kodandaram was arrested while he was on his way to attend Amarula Sphoorti Yatra (Martyrs Inspiration Campain) in Janagam district. The police stopped him at Narapally on the Hyderabad-Waranga Highway. Prof Kodandaram strongly protested stopping of his convoy and entered into heated argument with the police. However, the police arrested him and shifted him to Adibatla Police Station.
Earlier, the Police foiled the yatra being organised by the Telangana Joint Action Committee at Janagam on Saturday. The yatra was to be launched at Janagam and TJAC leader Prof. Kodandaram was to be the chief guest. The yatra is aimed at paying respects to those who ended their lives for the cause of Telangana.
However, the police swooped down on the TJAC district president Akula Satish and 20 others. They were taken to police stations in Bacchchannapet, Janagam, Lingala Ghanapur, Raghunath Pally and Station Ghanpur. To prevent any untoward incident, the police were deployed in large numbers in all sensitive parts of the district.
Prof. Kodandaram has strongly condemned the arrests in Janagam and said he would take the issue to the notice of the Home Minister. The arrests were undemocratic and stifling dissent smacked of dictatorship, he said. He said though the TJAC had sought permission for holding the campaign, the police deliberately denied the permission. He said he had already covered six districts and there were no restrictions at any of these places. But, now restriction are being imposed, he said.
