Controversy: Why Did Chandrababu Delete His Tweet On Savarkar?

Chandrababu Deleted This Tweet On Savarkar - Sakshi Post

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu sparked yet another controversy on Twitter yesterday. The Chief Minister posted a tweet around 7 am yesterday paying tribute to RSS icon Veer Savarkar on his death anniversary, it is learned.

His tweet read, "Humble tributes to the legendary freedom fighter, Veer Savarkar Ji, on his death anniversary."

However, the tweet has now been deleted making people wonder as to why the tweet was removed.

Given the current political heat between the Telugu Desam Party and the Centre, it is believed that the close association of Veer Savarkar, who has coined the word “Hindutva”, with the BJP could be the reason behind Chandrababu’s move.

TDP recently threatened to walk out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), after fall out with the Amit Shah-led ruling party on the issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The move has drawn heavy criticisms from people on Twitter. It is speculated that Chandrababu’s decision to delete the tweet is due to the TDP’s strained relations with ally BJP lately.

Veer Savarkar, also known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar is held in high esteem by the BJP.

Savarkar is also deemed as a ‘freedom fighter’ but many opposition parties; particularly the Congress party maintains that he wasn't a supporter of India's independence movement proving he was not a freedom fighter.

Several BJP leaders paid Savarkar rich tributes on the ocassion.
