Congress terms Rahul Gandhi’s marriage rumours baseless

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi is again in news. This time it’s about his marriage. The news spreading across the country that it’s almost final with a Brahmin girl from Allahabad. A person, who worked as secretary to late Rajiv Gandhi, is believed to have arranged this match for Rahul Gandhi. Recently, Sonia Gandhi visited Ananda Bhavan in Allahabad. Though party circles said it was part of political activity, sources revealed that discussions were pertaining to Rahul Gandhi’s marriage.

Responding to the news about Rahul Gandhi’s marriage spreading across the country, Congress leaders in UP termed it as baseless rumour. On the other hand, Congress Communication department Chief Randeep Surjewala also refused to comment when media asked him to confirm the news.

News about Rahul Gandhi’s marriage is going viral on social media circles. This not the first time speculations have surfaced over the marriage plans of Rahul Gandhi, who turned 46 on June 19, 2016. The social media buzz related to Rahul Gandhi’s marriage has turned more active after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy tweeted that the event was being planned keeping in mind the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls next year.
“Heard from ‘Sources’ for UP election Buddhu may marry a UP Brahmin girl soon. One more desperate stunt?” Swamy tweeted.

Subramanian Swamy has been after the Gandhi family since the party lost the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. He filed a case related to the embezzlement of funds in National Herald newspaper and raised questions over Rahul’s nationality.

Congress leaders said Swamy was maligning Rahul’s image as the party is trying to woo the Brahmin community in UP which will have assembly polls next year.

In 2012, after the Congress’ poor performance in the UP assembly elections, Swamy had tweeted. “What is the diff between Akhilesh and Buddhu? Former is 38 years old and has three kids. The latter is 42 and still a kid.”
