New Delhi: Congress party seems to be left with no option, but projecting Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the leader of election campaign in Uttar Pradesh (UP) Assembly elections to be held in 2017. It’s almost confirmed that Priyanka will be the face of party’s elections in UP. Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of Congress party President Sonia Gandhi, earlier campaigned in Amethi and Rae Bareli.

Realizing the tough conditions in UP, Congress has finally decided to project Priyanka Gandhi as the star campaigner for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Satya Dev Tripathi, Congress spokesperson in UP, said that Priyanka would venture out of Rae Bareli and Amethi, where she has campaigned for Congress in the past. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to lead election campaign across the UP and address 150 rallies in the country’s largest state.

Congress party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is on vacation abroad. The party has decided to hold a convention in Lucknow in mid-July once Rahul Gandhi comes back to India. This Lucknow convention is expected to be a platform, from where Rahul Gandhi will ask Priyanka to lead the party in elections, while kick starting the campaigning.

Congress won just 28 of the 403 seats in UP during the last Assembly elections. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls too, Congress party had secured only two seats in UP with only Sonia and Rahul emerging victorious.
