Congress core committee meet to decide fate of Telangana
It's a d day for Andhra Pradesh. The Congress core committee meeting in the nation's capital today is all set to take a call on the contentious Telangana issue.
Although there have been several deliberations over the matter for quite some time now, the topic hot up after Digvijaya Singh took charge of party affairs in state. Another reason for the Congress to speed up a possible resolution is the upcoming elections. With the party's fortunes suffering a blow, the Congress has chosen Telangana as its last resort.
The last few weeks have been buzzing with activities with senior Congress ministers from the state, including Chief Minister, Kiran Kumar Reddy, deputy CM, Damodar Raja Narasimha and PCC Chief, Botsa Satyanarayana shuttling between Delhi and Hyderabad meeting several ministers to take their view on the division of state. The trio have been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a roadmap for Telangana. Meanwhile, pro-Telangana and Seemandhra leaders have been doing their bit in a last-ditch effort to convince the Congress top brass why or why shouldn't the state be divided.
People in the state can't wait to know what's in store for their state which till now was one state.
At the congress core committee meeting that will soon begin, Kiran, Botsa and Damodar will present their respective reports or roadmaps. It remains to be seen what decision will the Congress core committee take. Is it going to be another fruitless effort to expect a resolution on the issue? Or will the party take the risk and declare its stand on the issue? If they did, then what will happen to Andhra capital? Will Hyderabad be made capital of the newly formed state as demanded by Telangana activists or will it become a union territory. The ball is in Congress' court now.
