CM promises reviewing power tariff proposal - Sakshi Post

Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERC) proposal of power tariff hike will be reviewed and common people would not be burdened anymore, said Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday.

He told reporters from his home district Chittoor that the government would study the ERC proposals on how much percentage the hike was and how many people would affect. He said he would announce a final decision on the hike in power charges on April 4-5 and assured that there would not be hikes which would hamper the interests of the poor. He recalled that the government had reduced the power tariff after ERC proposed hike last year. The excess burden on the people had been reimbursed with subsidy of Rs 545 crore.

The Chief Minister said the government was purchasing 550 MW of power at Rs 12.20 per MW and supplied free of cost to the power consumers. Kiran Kumar Reddy said the power tariff hike would not be that much as highlighted in the media. He reiterated that the Congress government would take any decision which would affect the poor and the downtrodden.
