Class nine student commits suicide over project work
A student of class nine, K Sravani, committed suicide in Karimnagar on Tuesday by immolating herself at her home, alleging teacher pressure in completing a project work.
Sravani was a student of Government Model School at Saidapur in Markapally. She stated in her suicide note, "Don't leave Sadique sir." The note also states that the said teacher is not giving priority for her project work.
However, school principal Farhana defended the teacher stating that he is soft natured and never had a record of rude behaviour. There were no complaints so far on the teacher, the principal said.
Some teachers of the school stated that the students studied in Telugu medium till class eighth, only this year they were shifted to English medium as part of the government’s new education policy. They said that many students expressed fear of getting less marks due to the change in medium of instruction. They felt Sravani might have resorted to the extreme step due to the same fear.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
