City based News Channel owner held for blackmail

Hyderabad: The owner of a local news channel was held by Saifabad police for trying to extort Rs 50 lakh from a business family on the pretext of possessing damning video content against them.The accused, identified as Shahid Quereishi, is the CEO of What's up News and Entertainment located at Khairatabad.

The victim, Hamed Saberi, apprised that Shahid has made a 30-minute long video against him and his family members calling them white collar criminals. The video alleges that Saberi has cheated many people including celebrities.The video contains false and defamatory content tarnishing family's reputation which has been circulated on the social media, he added.

Saberi informed police that on April 12 a man named Fayyazuddin Ahmed came to his home and demanded Rs 50 lakh to stop the video from being aired.

DCP VB Kamalasan Reddy said that they have lodged complaint against Shahid under sections 385 of the IPC and section 66 of the IT Act, and the accused will be produced before the court.
