Chennai Bound Volvo Bus With 43 Passengers Catches Fire

Chennai: A Chennai bound Volvo (Airavat) bus of KSRTC erupted in flames on Saturday morning at around 8 am. The bus carrying 43 passengers departed from Bengaluru on Friday night. It caught fire as it neared the Poonamallee junction which was few kilometers away from Chennai city.

No casualties were reported. The driver was alerted by a passenger who saw smoke bellowing out from the rear of the bus. The fire triggered panic among the motorists and brought traffic to a standstill. The fire department pressed into service several fire tenders to bring the fire under control.The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
