Chandrababu Deprived Nellore Students Of World Class University: YS Jagan
Nellore: Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu neglected the Vikrama Simhapuri University and deprived scores of students of their right to a world class university, Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
Addressing a public meeting in South Mopuru as part of the Praja Sankalpa Yatra, here on Saturday, he said the district did not have a university until 2008 and students were forced to migrate to other districts. "It was the initiative of former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy to establish the Vikrama Simhapuri University. However, since four years the infrastructure of the university has worsened. Also, contract lecturers were harassed by the state government so much so that they are praying for the ouster of the TDP government. The few recruitments that took place are against the UGC guidelines," YS Jagan said.
The Nellore district has been neglected in all aspects by the Telugu Desam government, he said and went on to cite several instances. "The Nellore municipality was established by combining 15 periphery villages. However, the state government failed to provide basic infrastructure such as drinking water, roads and drainage facilities. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu cannot account for the Rs 1,100 crore funds that were given to the Nellore municipality. Those funds were given as loan and not grant by Babu thereby burdening the people through increased taxes. Another instance of state apathy is the civic infrastructure in neighbouring Autonagar which is marked by the absence of roads and lack of drinking water facilities," the YSRCP chief said.
