'Chandrababu backtracking on crop loan waiver'

Andhra Pradesh PCC president N.Raghuveera Reddy said that chief minister designate N.Chandrababu Naidu must keep his election promise of waiving crop loans.
Speaking to reporters in Anantapur on Saturday, he said that Chandrababu Naidu is now afraid that the economy would be badly hit if the crop loans are waived.
Raghuveera reminded that an amount of Rs.80,000 crores is needed to waive crop loans.
“Farmers in the state did not pay back their loans due to the announcement of TDP president. If any farmer wants new loans, they have to clear the outstanding ones first. Till now, the RBI officials did not discuss with the economic experts on the issue. Chandrababu gave the promise only after the bifurcation of the state. There is no clarity in the statements of TDP president,” said Raghuveera.
He said that he was expecting that the first file that Chandrababu signs would pertain to the crop loan waiver.
