Chain snatchers' low tech getaway from the hi-Tech police

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police that was riding the media off late, with their hi-tech gadgets and mobile apps, had to face embarrassment on Tuesday when resilient chain snatchers not only managed to slip through their fingers immediately after the crime, but made their getaway on a police bike.

A couple of chain snatchers who were speeding away after attacking their latest chain-snatch-victim in L.B Nagar, were being pursued by a police constable, Sammaiah on his vehicle. However luck seemed to run out for the culprits as their bike began to die out on them due to lack of fuel.

Undeterred by this, the chain snatchers decided to throw a low-tech challenge at the policeman who was closing in behind them. They pulled out their weapons and waylaid the constable and forced him to give up his bike. Abandoning their own bike there, the culprits now made their getaway on the police bike.

The police authorities, who were left white faced, are reportedly furious about this incident and have ordered an enquiry into this episode. A wide net has been cast to try and nab these criminals who have robbed the police not only of their bike but of their pride as well.

Police are examining security cameras at various places to figure out their escape route. The registration number of the bike that they left behind is AP25 AM0642.

It is perhaps time for the police to use their own apps to locate their own stolen equipment.
