Ongole (AP): The police registered a case against the husband of a woman who died due to burn injuries, in what is being suspected to be a dowry death incident, a police official said in Ongole on Wednesday.

The suspected dowry death incident occurred in Kandukur town of Prakasam district on Wednesday morning, as G G Gowthami (25) wife of G Tirupathi Rao (30) died due to burn injuries at her residence in Kammapalem area, the police official said.

Her father T Yanadi Rao alleged that it is a case of a dowry death and that her husbands as well as his parents were responsible for her death.

Five years ago, she paid a dowry of Rs 2.5 lakh and sovereigns of gold to Tirupathi Rao, when she got married. He was not satisfied and he harassed my daughter for additional dowry.

On Tuesday night, my daughter told me that she is not able to face Rao's harassment after which she committed suicide on Wednesday, he said.

Kandukur Sub-Divisional Police Officer A Srinivasa Rao said that a case under Section 304 B of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the husband Tirupathi Rao and his parents, based on the complaint of the deceased's father.
